You chose yourself. Now what?

Our culture says choosing yourself is Plan B. Temporary. A consolation prize until you find “the real thing.”

But you know better.

You’ve seen the gap between what women are promised and what we actually get. You got tired of performing. So you chose yourself, and you’re building something rich.

The problem? There’s no aesthetic language for this life. No visual proof it’s aspirational. No frameworks for making it work. No objects designed for one. No media that reflects it.

That’s what we’re building.

What Charlie’s Toolbox Is

Not a self-help newsletter.
Not a support group for women “coping” with being alone.
Not wellness content or empowerment coaching.

This is a complete cultural ecosystem for women unchained to convention, whether you’re solitary, childfree, purposely single, divorced, or any woman building life on her own terms.

Think: The A24 of unchained, self-authored womanhood.

We’re creating the aesthetic language, frameworks, community, and cultural legitimacy for a life culture that says is sad, and proving it’s aspirational.

The 5 Pillars (What You’ll Find Here)

1. THE AESTHETIC LIFE

Visual proof that this life is beautiful. Photo essays, object studies, and sensory writing that document solitary moments worth savoring.

Recent: I Eat Snacks on a Silver Platter in Bed

2. THE PRACTICE (Paid subscribers only)

Frameworks for building capacity. Financial autonomy, social architecture, daily ritual design, developing taste, the structure that makes rich solitude possible.

Recent: Financial sovereignty framework: Scripts for money boundaries

FEMINIST FILM CLUB

Monthly film discussions that challenge how women are portrayed on screen. We announce a film at the start of each month, you watch on your own time, then we gather digitally on the second Sunday to discuss. Real talk about power, representation, and the narratives we’ve been fed.

Next Discussion: April 12th - Hard Candy (2005)

3. THE CULTURAL CRITIQUE

Why society makes choosing yourself feel impossible. Film analysis, book reviews, and cultural commentary that give you language for what you already know.

Recent: When He Knows All the Right Words

4. THE STORIES

Real women (ages 25-75) living self-led lives. Character studies written like indie film sketches to prove this isn’t theory.

Who This Is For

This is for you if you’ve chosen yourself in any form, and you refuse to treat that choice as a consolation prize.

This is for you if you want your self-led life to be rich, full, and unapologetically yours.

This is for you if you’re building something beautiful and you want to be part of a community doing the same.
Educated or intellectually curious
United in refusal of the convention

Not performing for anyone. Building for yourself.

Why I’m Building This

I’m Sherese Charlie, sociologist, cultural commentator, creator of spaces for women who live on their own terms.

At 14, I saw the gap between what women were promised and what they got. I couldn’t tell if it was just my observation or if this was everywhere.

When I got older, I realized: it’s everywhere.

So I viciously chose myself. Did what I wanted. Became the bad guy in many people’s stories. Learned. Iterated. Built.

And discovered something culture doesn’t have language for:

There’s a rich life here. Not Plan B. Plan A.

But when I looked for the aesthetic language, the visual proof, the cultural references, the objects, the media, it didn’t exist.

So I’m building it.

This Substack is where it begins. Essays, frameworks, stories, community, the complete system for women unchained to convention.
